“Around Midnight” is a throwback to the big band era of the roaring 1920’ - 1930’s. This painting pays homage to the Heyday of Jazz, Big Band and music virtuosos such as, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Cab Calloway, John Coltrane, and the big band sounds of Duke Ellington who defined the music scene and influenced the classical styles music, good times, and unparalleled fashion.
“Around Midnight” is an abstract work that incorporates rich bold lines to create a uniquely rich interplay between the tables, lighting, people, musicians, and atmosphere. The strong geometric lines of red, blues, browns, and oranges, characters richness as the lighted atmosphere invites the viewer to get dressed and become a part of the action at the Speak Easy or Cotton Club. If you use your imagination and listen closely, you can hear the music playing. (This is a one of a kind - original - “signed” - oil painting).
